How to Find Court Records in Alberta

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I search Alberta court records online?

Only partially. The Court of King's Bench Civil Search and Criminal Search portals, and the Court of Justice Civil Search for Calgary and Edmonton, let you submit and pay for a search request online through eservices.alberta.ca. There is no online portal for Court of Justice family, youth, or criminal files, or for any Court of Appeal matter; those require an in-person Registry request.

How much does it cost to search an Alberta court record?

The official fee is $25.00 per name search or file inspection, confirmed by the Court of Justice Fees Regulation, the Alberta Rules of Court, and the live eServices portals.

How much does it cost to certify an Alberta court document?

$20.00 per document. The government's own Court Information Access Guide states $10.00, but that figure is stale. Four independent sources, including both live eServices portals and the current regulation text, all confirm $20.00.

Can the public access a youth court record in Alberta?

Not without a youth court judge's direction. The federal Youth Criminal Justice Act bars access except as the Act specifically authorizes, and public or media requests are forwarded to a judge for a decision.

Is there an online search for the Alberta Court of Appeal?

No. Court of Appeal records must be requested in person at the Calgary or Edmonton Registry using a Civil or Criminal Search Request Form and a Terms and Conditions of Access form.

How do I get a transcript of an Alberta court proceeding?

Order through Transcript Management Services online with a credit card, or by email or voicemail if you do not have one. Pricing is per character and depends on how fast you need it, ranging from about $0.0048 to $0.0078 per character.
