Effective Date: March 1, 2026
Last Updated: July 23, 2026
Recording Law ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website recordinglaw.com (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you visit our Website.
Who We Are
The data controller responsible for this Website is:
Adam Steier
4990 92 Ave NW
Edmonton, Alberta T6B 2V4
Canada
Email: adam@recordinglaw.com
We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we do not meet the criteria that would require one.
We are based in Canada, but this Website is read worldwide. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR apply to our processing of your information because our advertising and analytics partners monitor visitor behaviour in those regions. The sections below headed "Legal Bases," "International Data Transfers," "How Long We Keep Information" and "Your Rights in the EEA and UK" set out the information required by Articles 13 and 14 of the GDPR.
Information We Collect
When you visit our Website, we may collect certain information automatically, including:
- Your IP address, browser type, operating system, and device information
- Pages you visit on our Website and the time spent on them
- Referring URLs and search terms that led you to our Website
- Information collected through cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our Website
- Analyze usage trends and understand how visitors interact with our content
- Serve relevant advertisements through our advertising partners
- Comply with legal obligations
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Visitors)
If you are in the EEA or the UK, we rely on the following legal bases under Article 6(1) of the GDPR:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for advertising cookies, personalised advertising, and analytics. You give this through the consent banner, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for server log files, which are necessary to deliver the Website and keep it secure and stable, and for logging affiliate link clicks so that referrals can be reconciled.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for responding to messages you send us, or performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) where your message concerns an agreement with us.
Where we rely on consent, refusing or withdrawing it does not affect your access to the content of this Website. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you have the right to object, as described below.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our Website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience and deliver personalized content and advertisements. You can control cookies through your browser settings. For more information about cookies and how to manage them, visit All About Cookies.
Managing Your Consent
Visitors in regions where consent is required see a consent banner before advertising and analytics cookies are set. The banner follows the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) and records your choices for our advertising partners.
You can change or withdraw your choices at any time through the settings in that banner. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it takes effect going forward. It does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use our Website. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about your use of our Website, including your IP address. This information is transmitted to and stored by Google. For more information on how Google uses data, visit Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a "device") by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, "Tags") may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser's cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser's cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.
The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:
- IP Address
- Operating System type
- Operating System version
- Device Type
- Language of the website
- Web browser type
- Email (in hashed form)
Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor's referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance's AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.
For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Complaints to a Supervisory Authority
Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right under Article 77 of the GDPR to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, your place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.
