Court Records in the Northern Territory: Access, Fees and What's Not Online

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an online portal to search NT court cases?

No public online case-search portal was found for either the Local Court or the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. The Supreme Court publishes a fixed-URL daily list PDF, and the Local Court publishes lists by venue, but neither lets you search by party name.

How much does it cost to inspect a court file in the NT?

The Local Court charges $32.00 to inspect court records under its current fee schedule. The Supreme Court's general-registry search fee is 25 revenue units, approximately $37 as recorded in research. Photocopying is $2.00 per page at either court.

Can I find out if someone has a criminal record in the NT?

A criminal history check is a different product from a court file. In the NT it comes from SAFE NT as a National Police Check, not from either court's registry. See police-check-nt and national-police-check-australia.

Are NT court suppression orders searchable?

The Supreme Court publishes a list a person can check for a suppression order made by the Court, but the Court itself notes that list covers only orders it has made, not the separate automatic statutory publication bans, such as youth identification or sexual-offence complainant identification, that apply without a court order.

Can I look up someone's domestic violence order in the NT?

That runs through its own application and record process, separate from ordinary court-file access, and it is not a public name search. This site's NT domestic violence order page covers how DVOs work and who can find out about one.
